The Clash in their Rehearsals Rehearsals studio, Camden Town, London. November 5th 1976.
This photo in The Clash studio was taken after my first formal interview with the band. Inspired by the fact that black and white youths against the wall with their hands above their heads being searched and arrested by the police was an everyday sight, this image became the cover of The Clash first single “White Rot/1977” released in March 1977. For the cover, the ‘Hate and War’ graphic on the back of Joe’s boiler suit was replaced by the name of the B side song ‘1977’.
