Hugh Cornwall was lead guitarist and singer of the Stranglers, a British rock band that emerged out of the punk scene in the 1970's. They began life as The Guildford Stranglers before becoming The Stranglers.

By 1977 the group had secured a contract with United Artists Records; they went on to become the highest-selling band to emerge from the UK punk scene, with numerous hit singles and record albums.

The Round House in Chalk Farm, Camden is an institution for live music. It started life as a turn table shed for trains and in 1966 became an arts venue. During the next decade the building became a significant venue for UK Underground music events. Other bands playing at the Roundhouse during this period included The Rolling Stones,Jeff Beck, David Bowie , Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Ramones and The Clash,
