John Blakemore writes that “To construct a still life is to play, both to create and to solve a jigsaw puzzle with no guiding picture. Even apparently simple and un-regarded material can stimulate exploration.

The pampas grass series combined a fascination with the intricate shapes and structures of the grasses with decisions about picture making.
