If male punk musicians caused horror, it was as nothing compared to how punk women musicians and their fans were judged. So appalled was the general public by the calculated way The Slits shattered approved lady-like stereotypes that they were spat at in the street. In the week before I took this photo, they had been thrown out of three hotels with only a few minutes notice.
