In 1977 Toyah was inspired by seeing the Sex Pistols to form her own band Toyah. This picture was taken outside the British Rail warehouse where the band rehearsed. Toyah is emerging from the coffin that she used as her bed. At the time, she was also starring as the pyromaniac ‘Mad’ character in Derek Jarman’s film ‘Jubilee. Her 1981 punkish single ‘I Want To Be Free!” (from her solo album ‘Anthem’) reached the top10 - a classic, pop at its best!
