The opening track of The Clash debut album Is the song ‘Janie Jones’: “He’s in love with Janie Jones/And he knows when the evening comes/When his job is done, he'll be over in his car for you”. When Mick Jones wrote the song, Janie was three years into a savage seven-year prison sentence for ‘controlling prostitutes’ … As soon as she was released from prison I went to interview her for Sounds.
