Karen Knorr (USA/UK ) is a photographic artist. She was born in Germany and grew up in Puerto Rico in the 1960’s. Her most recent exhibitions include Transmigrations shown at Augusta Edwards, London (2021), Sundaram Tagore ( 2022) and Danziger Galleries in Santa Monica California ( 2022). Her work is collected by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Modern, London, and Georges Pompidou, Paris. She is Professor of Photography at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham England. Karen is an Hons FRPS, and an advocate for women in photography, on the steering committee of Fast Forward Women in Photography https://fastforward.photography. Since 2020-21, Knorr has been selling small-scale special editions of her work on Artist support Pledge to raise funding for charities including Ukraine, Trussel Trust, Black Lives Matter and Give India.
‘Animals appear in my work as signifiers of a radical alterity, or “ otherness”, representing the vulnerable, displaced, and rejected set in Indian interiors, which include secular and sacred sites highlighting the perpetual conflict between nature and culture. As human animals we are now both perpetrators and victims of the oncoming horrors of our warming earth. These struggles are worldwide. ‘
David Campany is a writer, curator and educator based at University of Westminster. He has written nine books and over two hundred essays for monographs and museums. He regularly contributes to Frieze, Aperture, Source and Tate magazines. He has received the ICP Infinity Award, the Kraszna-Krausz Book Award, the Alice Award, a Deutsche Fotobuchpreis, and the Royal Photographic Society award for his writing.
The Hyman Collection is the private collection of Claire and James Hyman and is one of the most significant collections of British Photography in the world. The collection began in 1996 and consists of over three thousand artworks with a focus on photography in Britain. The collection ranges from conceptual artists working in photography to documentary photographers, and encompasses historic as well as contemporary photographs. The collection is committed to diversity and to platforming women working in photography. In 2020 Claire and James set up a charity to support photography in Britain and in 2022 they founded the public space, The Centre for British Photography, which opened in January 2023. https://britishphotography.org/the-hyman-collection-chronology
