Please join us at the Centre for British Photography to celebrate the publication of the photobook ‘I Burn But I Am Not Consumed’ (Daylight Books USA) by Alicia Bruce.   Alicia will also be in conversation with Christiane Monarchi (Photomonitor, Hapax, British Centre for Photography).

‘I Burn But I Am Not Consumed’ brings together photographs and an archive collated by photographer Alicia Bruce and the residents of Menie, Scotland. The project documents sixteen years of Donald Trump’s impact on the coastal Scottish community from 2006 until present day.  The book includes essays by Karine Polwart, multi-award winning Scottish songwriter and musician, Lesley Riddoch,  Scottish radio broadcaster, activist and journalist and  Louise Pearson, curator of photography at the National Galleries of Scotland.

 

‘I Burn But I Am Not Consumed’ was first launched at ICP Photobook Fair in New York where Alicia took part in a panel discussion and gave a lecture at ICP.

 

Images from the book are currently being exhibited at MoCP Chicago until 22 December this year.

 

The evening will include readings from the book, as well as a chance to purchase a copy of the book and get it signed.

Alicia Bruce is an award-winning, working-class photographer, community collaborator, educator, and activist based in Scotland. Her photography sits between documentary and staged imagery focusing on communities, environments and human rights. Alicia Bruce is a member of the collective Women Photograph and a Teaching Fellow at ECA, University of Edinburgh.  Her pictures are represented in several public and private collections including the National Galleries of Scotland, St Andrews University Special Collections, UK Parliament, Martin Parr Foundation and The RSA. She recently gave talks at International Centre for Photography,  School of Visual Arts in New York and Art Institute of Chicago.

Christiane Monarchi is the founding editor of the online photography platform Photomonitor which has published 1,300+ features since 2011 and is now in partnership with University for the Creative Arts. In 2020 she co-founded Hapax Magazine, a print publication commissioning new photographic ideas, currently working on its fifth issue. Christiane is also a freelance curator, lecturer, artist mentor and serves as a trustee of the Centre for British Photography.
