"They consist of incongruous juxtapositions, visual metaphors and symbolic references that transcend the information that was in front of the camera at the time of exposure. They were 'ordinary' situations transformed into something 'extra-ordinary' and often surreal by precise framing and creative use of vantage point." Paul Hill
Paul Hill. Vintage Works presents a rare group of vintage photographs from three of Hill’s most important early bodies of work, his photojournalism of the late 1960s and early 1970s, his celebrated semi-surrealist Prenotations of the mid 1970s, and his later landscapes of the Peak District from the series White Peak Dark Peak. The exhibition follows our 2023 presentation of large-scale platinum prints made recently after some of these classic images.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire vintage works by Paul Hill of many of his most celebrated images.
